Many thanks for those of you nice enough to email or comment on the recent loss of my 1998 HP Pavillion. I am proud to announce that I have a new computer and am able to design again... well, that is as soon as I get used to using this new Mac and the latest Photoshop CS5.

So give me a bit of time to play around with all these new tools and catch up on a few kits that I owe... I missed creating the Chinese New Year kit (for the Year of the Rabbit) and I missed my Valentine kit, too... I always enjoy making those two!

In the meantime, please don't forget that the Font Free 4 All Challenge is now posted new every other month (odd numbered months to be exact), so you can still post for the January challenge and get that posting bonus! New challenge will be posted on March 1st!!

Countdown to 2011 Blog Train - Day 5

Just a few more days until 2011! Time to think about your resolutions- the ones you made early in 2010 and those you'll make (or continue) in 2011.

Here's a quick list of mine:
1. weight loss- ongoing! (lost about 20 lbs since early 2010... the 2011 goal is to stay at my goal weight instead of fluctuating)
2. scrapping- I failed miserably for 2010 and didn't keep up well- let's try this again in 2011!
3. personal correspondence - keep in touch with elder relatives and hand write more letters and cards for birthdays and holidays
4. eat healthy - incorporate more homemade meals and more fruits and veggies into my daily eating habits (this one is gonna be the hardest of all!!)

I plan on making a layout of these resolutions, too. What I failed to do last year is print out my layout and hang it up where I can look at it. I've done that in the past and it has really helped me out. Would like to see your layouts in the gallery, too, soon.

Hope you all had a very Merry Christmas! Today I am eagerly awaiting the return of my boys from Washington state where they went to visit their father and the other side of the family for Christmas. On the 31st, my step-daughter will join us, too.

To all of you who come from blended families like ours, you know how precious time all together can be. I made the following layout because we had a great day that day when we took the photo I wanted to remember it. Isn't that why we scrap- for the memories?!

My Inked Halloween Kit from a few years ago didn't pass the quality check at Digitals... artistic differences on the issue that needed to be resolved, so I removed it from the store, rather than change something I did not believe was really wrong with it.

Just wanted to share a layout I made with the Go Carolina! Page Kit, these pictures actually inspired the creation of the kit. Funny story behind the ribbon in Makayla's hair...

When Mel went to go pick Makayla on Friday, her mother - a Georgia Bulldogs fan - was decked out in Georgia clothes. The game Saturday Sept. 12th between the South Carolina Gamecocks and the Georgia Bulldogs was a tough one, but Carolina won and we just HAD to send her back on Sunday with something Carolina. I weaved the ribbon in her braid so that it would not be so easy to take out! LOL!!!

Change, change, change

It seems that real life has gotten more demanding lately and it is a welcome change. Even though I love my day job and the fact that the boys school life and our family life is so active, I do miss the online scrapping time and being able to browse the message boards for the latest and greatest on the digital community. I'm so behind the times, and even further behind on the layouts as the pictures still pile up. Funny how I don't have time to scrap, but that camera keeps on clicking!

Additionally, I am helping to prepare for a wedding in October of two very dear and old high school friends... like me and my Mel, Jennie and Scott were "just friends" in high school... the kind where every one else knew they belonged together, but the friendship was so perfect that they didn't want to ruin it. It is so much harder to take the leap and change your relationship status in real life than on facebook! HA!! Change in this case, however, is so good!

I'm a bridesmaid in their wedding, and although it's all about Jennie, I find myself lately obsessed with (truth be known) being able to fit in that (already purchased and too late to order another if I need to) bridesmaid dress!!! EEK!! The wedding is October 2nd. But like many of you... I've seen you in the galleries!!!... I've come a long way with my weigh loss goals, even if not as far as I want to go.

From January to July, for example, I lost about 25 lbs. August and early September was rough and I did gain a bit, but with the upcoming wedding, I'm back in business and focused on my goal. In about another week or so, when what I've lost and gained and lost again all catches up, I'll be willing to create another layout, but in the meantime, July was the best I've felt about my weight... as you can see here... (Honestly, I cringed when I saw that January photo that our friend Rick took at his party... so NOT flattering, but exactly what I needed to see!)

The layout was created with elements and papers from my FleurEez Page Kit, available in my Digitals Store.

The jeans I was wearing in that January photo were guy jeans from Old Navy- YUCK! The July jeans were "curvy" jeans from the ladies' side of Express. I like being in "girl" clothes, and hope to maintain the shape for it... especially for Jennie's bridesmaid dress!

Anyone out there have any healthy "last minute" diet or exercise advise they'd like to share?

I know I may not churn out as many new designs as other digital designers, but I do enjoy designing very much. Did you know that - next to the store owner, Stacey - I am the oldest designer in the store? (Not age-wise... but tenure!) Though I may have sold my designs at another store before, I am now exclusive to Digitals, and probably will be always.

Digitals is my online family... quite literally, some of you have seen my boys and nieces/nephews grow up, have watched my fur-babies grow and cried with me when one passed, have joined me in the office, have suffered through the divorce, and have also "attended" the second wedding with me. How could I not think of you all as family?

Thanks scrappers, for being honest about your thoughts with my FleurEez Page Kit and FleurIsh Page Kit. Like many of you, I do like the black and white theme. The FleurIsh Page Kit grew because I did not like how some of my color photos just did not look good with the colors in the FleurEez Page Kit.

I think I mentioned before that I create out of necessity... when I need elements or a kit of a particular theme, I try to create it. (That is of course, if I have the time!) But is also seems as if I get creative streaks in spurts, and do what I can to create while the gift is with me. I guess I'm one of the manic-depressive scrappers.

Don't forget, too, if you purchase any of my kits in the store, please leave a review in the store. I know that when I was new to digital scrapping, I relied heavily on the reviews of other scrappers and wanted to see what others created with a particular kit before I purchased it. So get those reviews in the store and those layouts in the galleries, please!!! Let's help out the newbies like my friend Bernadette. July 20- Day 7 of the Christmas in July Blog Train AND SALE

Is it Tuesday already? I've got choir practice tonight and must admit I really do enjoy singing in the choir. Those of you who know me personally know that I love the attention!! LOL! I've always loved singing considered music one of the greatest gifts I could have gotten from God. I may not play my clarinet anymore, I can still sing my heart out!

The above layout, created with some elements from my new FleurIsh Page Kit, features pictures taken last Easter Sunday. Mel caught a pic of me in the choir loft at the 7:30 Mass that Sunday... I used to sing regularly at 7:30- mainly because that was when they gave me my own mic and there are only 3 of us at 7:30AM! - but honestly, it is way to hard for me to get ready and look presentable so early in the morning so now I just sing with the full choir at 9:30 (and have to share a mic with the other altos!).

A little tip for those of you who like the black and white layouts, but don't like that they seem to blend into the galleries if you post them online, or blend to the page if you print them out... after you've merged your layout to one layer, add a stroke of black around the entire layer... it will give a framed look to the layout and help the layout standout in the gallery or on the paper if you print it out.

Where did the weekend go? I know I'm not working extra days (says my paycheck), but doesn't it feel like the weekend is getting shorter? With the garden, lawn work, trying to get the air conditioner fixed (why does it only break when it's the HOTTEST ever?!), laundry, etc... where did the weekend go?

I wanted to share a few pictures of my garden... made this layout with one of the quickpages that you'll get as a gift on this blog train (you might have it already, not sure... order of the gifts are even a surprise to me! LOL!)

I call it "my garden" but honestly, my Mel did all the work. I'm so very proud of him! We've harvested green beans and eggplant and roma tomatoes, and it is such a pleasure to know exactly what you're eating.

Now if only we could get the chocolate brownie plant to grow! LOL!!!

By the way... thanks everyone, for your nice comments during the blog train. I do hope you enjoy the gifts. If you use them, I would like to see some of them in the galleries. Be sure to send me a look so I won't miss it.

July 18- Day 5 of the Christmas in July Blog Train AND SALE!

Scrappers... we have newbies among us! One of them is a co-worker (at my "day job") and a dear friend who has ventured into the realm of digital scrapping recently (HI BERNADETTE!!!). We discussed last week where she could get some free digital stuff and I told her about Digitals (mainly because it's my favorite site and I sell my designs there, duh!).

I forgot to mentioned to her about the Bonus Downloads gallery- a special place in our Digitals Gallery for registered members where designers sometimes put up free gifts and samples. (You won't see this gallery if you're not a registered member with Digitals!) Such a great resource for new scrappers who want elements and backgrounds to practice with and also to "audition" a new designer before you buy their designs. I kept forgetting to mention this to Bernadette while we were in the office, and I thought that maybe some other scrappers didn't know about it, so consider yourselves duly notified!

I remember when I first started digital scrapping. I was tired of buying all those alphabet stickers because I needed a few extra letters, so I downloaded a few digital alphabet elements and printed the letters I needed. Quickly, I realized how great it was to have as many of the same alphabet as I needed and could use over and over!

OH! Speaking of alphabets, I have my FleurEez Pink Alphabet in the store now. I created just the capital letters for this set, and it is also included in the current 25% off sale! WHAT A BARGAIN!

Saturday!!! I really need this weekend and I intend to enjoy it!

I'm a bridesmaid for my friend Jennie's October wedding and we'll be doing some fun girl stuff today.

The boys want to enjoy what's left of their summer vacation and enjoy the seashore. Will try to take them out to some kind of water feature this weekend or next - or at the very least, before they head back to school.

I got a few emails asking why I did not include textures on the backgrounds of FleurEez. To be honest, I just could not decide on which textures to use with this kit. So instead, the backgrounds are "flat".

I also thought this would make the kit more versatile- you can add your own favorite texture! What kind of filters are you using for your textures?

As a photoshop user, I use Alien Skin's Xenoflex 2 and I love it! You can see a few samples of their textures HERE. This is a pricey plug-in, though and honestly, if I had not gotten it as a gift, I would not have bought it for myself.

There are a few good free filters and plug-ins available for any program that you use. Just "google it!"

Day 5 - May 4 Digitals Blog Train

I know some people hate it... looking for the free sample... but I was always taught that anything that comes too easy is not worth having. (With the exception of winning the lottery! LOL!!)

My life right now is the perfect example of not having it easy... some of you may remember that I did have an "easy" life, and even though I made it all look good in layouts, I was never truly complete or happy. Now, even though I am working my way through debt and need to work full time, I am married to my soul's mate and really am happy. We have a humble home in the hometown where we met and are slowly making our home our castle. You may also notice that I don't have that many wedding layouts... just more proof that I've been much too busy to complete my wedding album!

Another example of something worth working for is that my boys are living with us now- something I thought would never happen after the divorce. And it is SO NOT EASY with two teenage boys in the house, but (most days) we're one happy family! LOL!!!

I did, however, have time to complete a few of the Digitals challenges... and even one overdue layout for the April calendar challenge.

Day 4, May 3 - Digitals Blog Train

What a gorgeous Sunday we had today!

I am in the church choir and I sang at 2 masses, 7:30 and 9:30 am. I really do like singing and I enjoy so much being able to cantor during mass. And - truth be known - I do like the microphone! HA! Must be part of my Leo personality... or in the Chinese horoscope, I'm a Fire Rat.

After mass, we walked a bit at the flea marker, before I had to nurse my (possibly stress-fractured) toe while Mel worked in the garden and around the house getting things ready for the busy week ahead. After dinner, I went out to help clean up brush, being sure to enjoy some of the beautiful cool evening.

Our veggie garden is coming along nicely; all the hard work of my Mel. Next year, I hope to have roses just like the ones at my in-laws. My Mel used to bring the beautiful pink roses to me some mornings when he picked me up for high school. I hope the roses in my garden will come from the same plants that he clipped way back when. Wouldn't that be a great romantic story to tell our future generations? (Not to mention it would make for a great layout.)

Speaking of flowers- check out this month's Picture This challenge at Digitals. I'm sure you have pictures of flower, too! Maybe you could even use the free sample backgrounds you've been getting from me during the blog train? (hint, hint!) I enjoyed a lazy Saturday yesterday... well, after my karate class anyway. I even took a NAP! Can't remember the last time I took a nap or even went to bed before I realized I was asleep on the couch. Is it just me or is it hard for everyone else to find the time to relax? I am very proud to be a part of the Digitals' 2010 National Scrapbook Day (NSD) Blog Train!

Thanks for stopping by... I hope you "enjoy the ride" while getting to know a little more about me and my designs. Everyday from April 30th through May 5th, please come back to get a sample of my digital work. I won't make it so easy, though. The link to my sample will be in the text of my blog post. I think it is only fair that you learn a little about the designer or the item you'll be downloading.

The sample pieces for this blog train are extra backgrounds that will match the color swatch of Digitals' NSD mega challenge kit for May. These backgrounds are some that I experimented with using the same colors... I do hope you enjoy them.

Not only is Feb. 14th Valentine's Day, it is also the first day of the new lunar year... the Year of the Tiger. Below is a printable in celebration of a great Chinese New Year tradition.

The "hong bao" is a red envelope that is used for giving monetary gifts. Wikipedia explains it better... CLICK HERE for more information on this tradition.

Despite all the effort of putting together those bookmarks, I ran out of ink for my printer. Still, I did manage to get in some reading time and am thoroughly enjoying my vacation days!

Someone emailed me some questions about the textures and elements in my Furry Family and Furry Family 2 kits. Since I thought that some others might have the same questions, I put together a sampler as my day 5 blog train gift. DAY 4

As the last days of my precious vacation hours are used up, I realized that I have been so busy that I haven't done some of the things that I wanted to do while I was out of the office. One of the main items was catch up on my reading! My friend Jennifer and my sister Jessica have lent me books that I haven't even cracked open yet, but I thought that when I did, I would need a few bookmarks. So I created a few bookmarks from two of my latest kits, Furry Family and Furry Family 2, pictured below. Click on the preview to see them in the Digitals Store and get these kits at 30% off through Jan. 1st.

Those of you who have seen pictures of my fur-babies, will recognize them in the preview. The black/white terrier is Daisy, Jennifer's fur-baby.

As with the last few items, these bookmarks are Blog Exclusives and will not be available in the store for purchase, so get them here and link to this blog for others to get them, too. I really can't thank you enough for your wonderful emails and comments on yesterday's blog train gift. Due to the huge response, I'll keep the Day 2 download up permanently as a sample.

Some of you who have been with me awhile may remember that I spent some time in Taiwan, as well as being a Chinese Mandarin linguist while serving in the Air Force. It was because the cost of shipping paper scrapping supplies to Taiwan that inspired me to start digital scrapping and creating digital elements. (Everything happens for a reason!) In fact, when I first started in the forums and chatrooms, my screen name was "ScrapGeekAsia". Anyone remember that?

We've been blessed this year with my boys (Jack and Kyle) coming to live with us, a new kitten, and a "new" home for all us (it's a 51 year old really comfy place!). We were even lucky enough to have my stepdaughter, Makayla, join us for most of the Christmas holiday.

Today I wanted to feature my Fall and Halloween themed kits... remember that they are all 35% off through November 4th!

One of my all time favorites is 2 Cute 2 Spook. I really liked the idea of being able to have a non-scary Halloween kit available, but one that was not too baby-ish. My favorite elements in this kit are the chipboard ribbon sliders.

Another cute one is Treat Me... this one does not have a lot of Halloween elements, but I used this kit last year when I made an altered paint can to send goodies for my boys. I think it came out pretty nice...
You know boys, though... I don't think they noticed the can as much as the goodies inside. :)

Working on New Stuff

I've got several ideas for new kits and I am really finding it hard to narrow down a theme.

Originally, I wanted to create a kit inspired by my "new" home. It's a cute little rancher, built in 1958 with an added room off the kitchen (which I think used to be the back porch); this room is now my bedroom. But besides a color scheme and some textures, I really don't know what else to put in that kit.

So then I thought I'd do a kit inspired by my son, Jack... but since the boys have moved with me to South Carolina (HURRAY!!!!), Jack has been concentrating on school, homework, his iPod, and City of Heroes. So again, besides a few really "interesting" backgrounds, not certain about the elements to include in the kit.

Kyle is in the concert band, jazz band, Karate (with me and Mel!), and also keeps busy with school and homework and the kitten and World of Warcraft. Furry Family and Furry Family 2 were inspired by the addition on Lion-el to our family. Kyle Smiles was inspired by Kyle's love of the smiley face (yellow is his favorite color). I will be gathering some Jazz band elements for an upcoming kit... but not certain which elements.

So my question for you... what kinds of elements should I include in my kits? What kinds of elements do you find most useful and would like to see in a kit?

Day 7 Blog Train

It is only Wednesday and I'm tired already! We had Karate class Monday night; I had choir last night; and tonight is our second Karate class. I am thrilled that Mel joined us for Karate... "way back" he was a tae kwon do instructor, so he is just a karate beginner with me and Kyle... but Mel has some great basics that make everyone who watches know that he's had prior training. If anyone asks Mel tells them "I've had tae kwon do training." And then I scoff and add, "actually- he was an instructor".

To top it all off, our main instructor for Monday night was my "baby" brother, Juan. I must admit, he's a great instructor and knows his stuff. I just have a lot to live up to, since Juan is a black belt and assistant instructor and competes very well in state and national competitions.

My main reasons for joining were to help motivate my son Kyle and lose that weight I gained back since the divorce. Seriously, I have to get my weight under control again. I guess I eat when I'm happy, and from the looks of it, I've VERY HAPPY! LOL!

Day 6 Blog Train

WOW! What a week already! After a full day of work, I started Karate classes with my son, Kyle, last night. He took KungFu in Augusta, but hasn't been in martial arts since he left Augusta. Our dojo is just two blocks away, so we finally decided to sign up! One word... ouch.

I'm sore and tired and the white gi makes me look fat. LOL. (I've never looked good in white!) So I guess my motivation is to study and practice hard so I can get another color belt that won't make me look so fat. LOL!

And then tonight is choir practice, though that is A LOT less taxing than Karate! LOL!

So I guess my next kit will need to be martial arts inspired or Church or music. I always create out of necessity to scrap the pictures I have.... maybe after my house kit.

In the meantime, though... here's day 6 of the blog train gift from me... I hope you'll use them to send photo cards to family... you know they'd love it!

Well I've been busy getting ready for my Furry Family Fun Chat on Sunday, Oct. 4th at 9pm in the Digitals chatroom. I need to get started on my Christmas gifts, and am giving you the chance to do the same.

Through September 30th only, I have put the Misc. Christmas Kit on sale for $2- no coupon required.

The added bonus is a load of quickpages, just for sharing 2 of yours!!!... very similar to the Digitals Quickies Challenge. A few differences....

Since I failed miserably on the April monthly challenges at Digitals, I'm working hard for May.

See my gallery for the last few layouts I've posted and keep track with me on the layouts I've completed for the month with the ticker at the top of this page.

Below is the card I completed for the May 2009 Card Challenge, based on a template by Christine Smith. I used items from my Daisy Daze collection, which will be 30% off the entire month of May.

May already, Scrappers!

I have just posted the Font Free 4 All Challenge and even uploaded a layout for it!

While I was at the computer, thought I'd create a layout for my own challenge! Mel took that great photo while we were waiting for the boys' plane to take off. And yes, that date is correct, they left early on Easter Sunday. (It was so hard to pull myself together and get to Mass that day! What would I do without my Mel?)

I'm determined to keep up this month, since I failed miserably with last month's challenges, posting only 5 layouts for April, despite the "encouragement" from my scrapping "nemesis." (Thanks for trying to motivate me, T!)

My New Nephew

I come from a large family. And when I remarried, it got even larger... filipinos are known for large tight-knit families! On Sunday, Feb. 15th, we added a new member to our family... welcome, Henry!
Pardon me while I bare my soul on the internet and let me explain why Henry is particularly special to me.

I have been welcomed warmly by my new nieces and nephews. The fact that they are all young (all under the age of 9) makes it easier... not too many tough questions to answer as to why Uncle Mel was bringing around a "new lady"... and with two other kids, too! To Henry, I'll be different. Henry will not know any "other" auntie... just me. And I can't tell you how much of a relief that is... it's like I'm his "real aunt" and not a step-aunt. Does that make any sense?

Anyway, I couldn't help creating when I needed more elements and backgrounds for Henry's photos, so naturally, I made a kit! Please click on the photo to see more previews in the Digitals Store.

If you see my gallery, you'll note that Henry has an older brother and two sisters, who are twins. I thought that maybe their parents would not have time to create a scrapbook, and so I created the Baby Henry Brag Book for them. My favorite layout from the Brag Book is the one below, because he finally woke up and I got a picture with his eyes open...

I’d like to publicly send a big BIG thank you to my best friend and husband for the beautiful bouquet of 100 mini pink and red roses that were delivered to my office on Friday. A co-worker told me she prefers not to get flowers because she’d rather have a gift that lasts longer than just the life of the bouquet. I can see her point, but then realized that if I create a layout, the flowers will last forever! So... ta-da!

Blog Train 7: Scraps in the Work Place

I am very pleased... and jealous... to show you "what Tamra did". This is a double layout I created for the Weekly Double Challenge at Digitals. Click on the pictures to see them in my Digitals Gallery and for a complete list of credits.

Like any good photo, there is a story behind these... Tamra, an avid (and as you can tell, very talented!) paper scrapper made her own bulletin board for the office. Everyone commented on it, and oohed and awed, and my darn competitive self told everyone that I could do just as well if not better. Well, I still haven't been able to put something as nice together, and my boss is constantly teasing and reminding me that I've yet to produce a bulletin board.

And then I "personalized" a clip for my boss by putting his name on a file label and sticking it to the end of the binder clip (no picture of that masterpiece- ha!). He bragged about his clip and showed it to Tamra and I knew that her in her mind she was already designing a better one... and boy did she ever!

In my defense, I knew I would not have the ideas or resources to personalize these clips, so I provided her with a bucket of clips and a list of "titles" that I needed on the clips. And then Tamra made the gorgeous things you see in the layout.

Think about this... I have a set of personalized binder clips that I did not have to work so hard for... that is what I call "scrapping SMARTER, not harder." Thanks, Tamra!!!

Blog Train 6: Warm Weather Scrapping

When I saw the topic for the Let's Talk About Challenge, I didn't think I'd be able to create a current layout for this challenge... especially not after Punxsatawny Phil predicted six more weeks of winter!

But the groundhog lied, and I scrapped (as shown below!), and we are still enjoying weather in the 70's this week. Just click on the layout below to see it in my Digitals Gallery and a complete list of credits.

Blog Train 5: Inspired by Sketches

I write this late Tuesday night, Feb. 1oth. And I have 10 layouts in my gallery! "Yeah, me!"

Admittedly, though, I was totally uninspired last night when I tried to catch up. When I need ideas, I turn to the Digitals Monthly Challenges. That is not just a ploy to get you involved... it is totally true!

I completed the following layout for the Sketch Challenge. It is hosted by Jennifer Maceyunas and she has the greatest sketches! I always save Jennifer's Sketch Challenge for the nights when I can't think of anything creative myself. The "creative jumpstart" I get from Jennifer always inspires me to do more.
And then there is the Card Challenge, hosted by Christine Smith. This month Christine offers a layered tiff file for her challenge, so it really could not be easier to make a great-looking card!

Both of the above were created using my Kyle Smiles Kit. It is so dear to my heart because it was created for my "baby boy" Kyle. Just a head's up, the Kyle Smiles Kit and anything else that eventually makes it's way to my Digitals Store created with Kyle Smiles (quickpages for example), will always be 50% off every March 1st... that's Kyle's birthday!
